When you try to do anything you roll the dice. Win or lose, you roll the dice. There are two ways to see if you succeed: a Check, or an Opposed Roll. Checks: A check (be it Skill, Characteristic, etc.) is a roll of 3d6 (or a d20) plus your total Bonus. Your total Bonus is usually Skill ranks + keyed Characteristic, but it could be just Skill ranks or Characteristic. Certain checks may have other Bonuses, such as a Nameccian making a listen Check (a listen check is usually just a Mental Check), which he would add his Physical to the Check as well. All Checks are against a set difficulty. Opposed Rolls: Like a Check except that you roll a number of dice equal to your total Bonus for the Roll. A Nameccian would still get a Bonus when he has to hear something. If someone were trying to move silently, then a listen Roll would be used. i.e.1: Piccolo and Goku have crossed each other and are out for blood. Goku tries to sneak up on Piccolo, and get him by surprise (Opposed Rolls: Goku- move silently: Men - 1 per 10 ponds of clothing = 3+15 = -12. Piccolo- listen: Men + Phys - 1 per 10 feet away = 9+15-2 = 22)Since Goku is wearing his weighted training clothes he has no chance of not being heard and Piccolo greets him with a Messenko. i.e.2: Goku is shot at by Piccolo's Messenko blast. (Opposed Rolls: Goku- Evasion: Com + Evasion skill = 40+ 250= 290. Piccolo- Power: Com + Power skill = 20+150 = 170). (Rolls: Goku- 870, Piccolo- 680.) Goku easily dodges and Piccolo gets mad. |
